if you think being a homosexual is sort of like being short

The GOP continues their slow suicide this week with yet another attack on homosexuals.  Republican Congress hopeful Sean Bielat compares homosexuals to short people when discussing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell with the Boston Herald:

“There’s no absolute right to serve. Men under the height of 5 feet, 2 inches can’t serve — I don’t see anybody protesting. Where are the people standing in front of the White House, the short guys standing in front of the White House? You don’t see it,”

Apart from Beilat potentially losing the increasingly important short vote in Massachusetts, he is also picking an unwise battle against homosexuality since almost 60% of Americans support the repeal of DADT according to a recent Angus Reid Public Opinion survey.

With candidate Ken Buck calling homosexuality a “choice” and Bielat comparing it to a birth defect of sorts (is being male and 5’2″ a birth defect?), the GOP is confusing their message and tailoring it to whatever issue may arise.  Sure this may work in the short term, but as they disenfranchise practically every minority in America during this election cycle, the GOP will be severely screwed in the next few decades as straight white folks become the minority.

So, you might be GOP if you think homosexuality is a choice except when you want to join the military because then it’s a birth defect.
